Review of Sport 927.

I listened to Sport 927 on the AM Dial just today, and it made me want to talk about it.
I want to share the love that I have for Sport 927.
They had a very in depth interview with a bookie who had a lot of knowledge about next weeks Melbourne Cup.
He had something to say about every horse that was running, from “The one to beat” for Master O’Reilly and “Not worth a look” for Black Tom.
After the long and informative interview, the next person comes on air to talk about the days Greyhound racing.
He says that a sure bet at Sale is Tiza Moment, Race 6, Box 6. And he reads out his quaddie choices at Sale, far too quickly for me to write down.
The closer I drove to the City, the better the reception came, but as a went home, the worse the reception got. Not good. Thats just cos I live far…far…away.
I will definitely listen to this again, i will probably hook up the radio to listen on Cup Day.

Review on Colin Lane on 774 ABC

I decided to turn the dial over to the AM side the other day, it hasn’t been done for a while, as I do not get AM stations that well. But today was different, Colin Lane (From Lano & Woodly) was filling in for Richard Stubbs, as he is apparently on a much needed break.
Colin didnt name his show, or he didnt tell me the name, when I was listening. It didnt bother me, because he said more than enough times, that he was Colin Lane, filling in for Richard Stubbs.
Colin seemed to be very nervous about his “Show” as he ummmed and ahhhed his way through the first half hour. His first segment on the show, was reading an article in the paper about Former British PM, Tony Blair, proposed to his wife in the bathroom, while she was cleaning the toilet. Colin then asked listeners if they had heard or been apart of any “weird” and wacky proposals. Except, he couldnt get that sentence out, as it was filled with umms and ahhs. I got very uninterested and turned it off, as I didnt want to listen to all the umms, etc. If I wanted to listen to that, I would have just tuned into a community station.

Review of “Saturday Morning Sports Show” on 3BBR FM

Saturday morning, on the 16th of June, I was listening to the community radio station, 3BBR FM, that broadcasts an 18km radius from Drouin. This show has a producer/presenter (Craig, pretty much runs the show) and it also has 3 other panel members, (Mick, Brian and Leigh) they are sporting names of the district, and are always on. The show is very informative, with a lot of local sports results, with the previous nights AFL game wrap up, and it has the odd world sport result too. Craig gives all the results, and the 3 other members voice their opinion, about the subject, usually have important information about that current subject. The show is good, especially if you want to know about local sports results, and I know I do, thats why Im on the show, tomorrow morning. Its a good local community show. Not overrun by commercials and songs.

Review of “Drving Force” on 104.7 FM

The other Wednesday I was driving and decided to listen to what the community stations around my area had to offer.
So I switched the dial to 104.7 FM, which brought me to Gippsland Radio. At that time of the day, (5:30pm), A program called “Driving Force” was on the air ways.
My first impressions of the show was that, the presenter had not researched any of the topics and bands that he talked about. “Ummm…I think they’re from somewhere in America, not sure where tho… cant think of it at the moment” This is an example of one of the many ‘riveting’ passages he gave me throughout my time listening.
He seemed to be the bumbling clumsy presenter that doesnt know much about what he is meant to do. He may have just been filling in the timeslot, but yeh, not a good effort.
This is a drive time slot, and he was playing a terrible genre of music. It was either Metal, or Punk, I cant be bothered trying to spot the difference, as they both dont interest me. Seeing this is a community station, Im sure other people would have liked some other type of music on their drive home.

Reviews on the 30 Minute Programs.
May 30, 2007, 2:15 am

Throughout weeks 12 and 13, our class got to listen to each others 30 minute programs. Everyone had to review each program, as if it was on proper radio, like the earlier reviews I did. Here they are.

Show 1: Leon (D-Roy & Shegrz)
- Ideas are good, makes you want to continue listening. Content is great, people in the show gell great together. Presentation could be improved with pauses, ahhs & umms a plenty. But overall it was very good. I would tune into this every time its on.

Show 2: Connor (Conman at the Movies)
- Audio sounds tinny (we found the problem though). Review is well researched. Only stayed with one tone during review. A few um & ahhs, kind of went off track when Matt & Jesse came on the show.

Show 3: Jesse (Comedy Corner)
- Could hear a few editing cuts/points at the start of the DVD review, but mostly everything seemed to work together. Nice work.

Show 4: Jack (No 2nd Prize)
- Good voice, interview seemed to be a bit loud, and distorted. Show was well presented, but could hear the edit cuts/point to well. Its very engaging. Top work!

Show 5: Jake (Hip-Hop something)
- Sound is very soft, you said a guy was on line one, then said thanks for having you in the building, I got confused. Consistancy could be improved. Like…Like… a few times more. Nice.

Show 6: Matt (Non Stop Sport)
- Intro was good, but seems to be really quick. Just like your whole show, you seemed to be racing the through, as if you had no time, to speak s-l-o-w-l-y. Very informative, well presented and researched. Great Vox Pop. Good work.

Show 7: Crystal (No Name)
- Audio is tinny, makes me think I’m in a tin can. First song, “heres a bit of…” not the best thing to say. Lots of dead air through out. Can hear that you’re reading the review off a script. It wasnt natural, and went for too long, and Im not sure what it was about in the end. You seemed to talk about two things. How do you spell it again, because you seemed to get confused with the spelling. Large gap before and after vox pop. Cant really hear the discussion with Matt, you should turn the mic fader right up, and speak closer to it. Seemed to go off topic a fair bit. What time was it anyway, or when would this be playing?

Show 8: PJ (B-Boy Stylin’)
- Could hear mini disc beep during track one. Very slow talking, not like Matt at all. Vox Pop was good. You say hope and enjoy a lot. Show was a bit interesting I think. :)

Show 9: Reid (Chit Chat)
- Vox Pop was rather short. No back announce for artist after song “Rollercoaster”. Good statistics. I liked how you took control during the discussion. Good voice fluxuation.

Show 10: LawRAH (Harry Potter Half Hour)
- Good segue throughout whole program. Good review, very informative. Discussion was good, very very informative about a few first kisses.

Overall, great work Group A, you know who you are… :)

Comparison of 2 interviews

- I listened to two interviews, both of which went for longer than half an hour.
The first station was ABC 774 with with Jon Faine and Alan Brough, the two interviewed 80 year old Bollywood actress/singer from India, Asha Bhosle. The interview wasnt that well prepared, they had some information about her, but a few times it was the wrong year etc. On a few occasions, Asha did not understand what the question was asking, as her English was not as good as Mr Faines.
Other than those things, the question techniques were good. It was a promotional interview.

Review #2

My 2nd review was on SYN FM. [90.7]

Early Monday morning (6:15am), I decided to listen outside “the square” and choose a station that i have never really heard before at a certain time. I chose SYN FM. I actually liked what was being played and how it was being played.

I believe the hosts name was Albert, although I could be wrong. He was very energetic and the music he played was the type I would listen to. Its like the modern day genre of Rock. Upcoming bands that sound like Franz Ferdinand, The Fray, The Killers etc.

Albert would introduce the next track to be played, and then two songs would be played, after that he would repeat what the songs were again. He was doing a good job considering that he started his shift at 2am!

I liked this station because it played more of the songs I like and it told me who the artist was, unlike Triple J, from the times I have listened and also Star FM, who dont say the song title at all. It’s very much like Nova at night time, with most of the good genre of songs and how they quote the artist and track title before and after each song.

If I had my way in my house, I would listen to this in the mornings all the time, but until then, I’m stuck with my parents favourite couple…Grubby and DeeDee on GOLD 104.

“Review” of Triple M’s Get This.
February 14, 2007, 12:53 am

I tuned into Triple M at 11am, to listen to Get This with Tony Martin and Ed Kavalee. Its pretty much my favourite radio show.

On this occaision, Tony and Ed were talking to each other about what weird and fascinating things people got up to over the summer holidays. It was a very hot topic, there were many callers I was suprised that there were so many, seeing that there is no prizes given for best response, unlike many other radio shows on other stations, like Fox FM etc.

One caller I remember most is, they went to the city and had just a few to many drinks, then they ended up getting a tattoo on a random part of their body. Its not like other shows where callers only call up to win stuff. On this you only ring up for the satisfaction of telling someone your story. No prizes.

About 10 minutes before the 2nd hour starts, they open up the lines for callers to ring up about anything thats on there minds. This is a regular segment called “Talkback Mountain”.

In the 2nd hour, the major air time topic was the perverted people who put cameras in the shoes and walked round at the Australian Open taking photos. And how this was becoming a phaze of somesort. People were being caught all round the country doing this. They ended up making a lot of fun out the the weird people who do that stuff.

Overall it was a great show, and im glad that its gone to 2 hours this year, unlike last years 1 hour show.

Peace Out—

(Happy Valentines Day)
